Solvent dyes are dyes that are insoluble in water and soluble in organic solvents/plastic melts.
They are often used as the core coloring component of color masterbatch and are used for high transparency and high brightness coloring of polymer materials such as plastics.
Basic Concepts
-Solvent dye: Molecular non-polar/weakly polar, can be completely dissolved in resin melt at plastic processing temperature, forming a molecular level solution, with uniform coloring and no graininess.
-Masterbatch: Pre dispersed particles made from high concentration solvent dyes/pigments, carrier resins, and dispersants, which facilitate precise and stable coloring during plastic processing.
- High transparency+high brightness: No pigment particle scattering, suitable for hard adhesive transparent/semi transparent products such as PS, ABS, PC, PMMA, PET, etc.
- Strong coloring power: Adding a small amount can achieve high saturation colors and reduce costs.
- Heat resistance/light resistance/migration resistance: Suitable for plastic high-temperature processing, the product is not easy to fade or bleed.
- Uniform dispersion: After pre dispersion, it has good compatibility with the substrate, no spots, and small color difference.
- Environmentally friendly and low dust: using granular materials to reduce dust pollution.
Applicable resins and typical applications
-Applicable: Amorphous/high hardness thermoplastic resins such as PS, SAN, ABS, PC, PMMA, PET, PBT, hard PVC, etc.
-Not applicable: Soft PVC, PP, PE and other crystalline soft adhesives (easy to migrate, poor transparency).
-Common products: transparent packaging bottles, cosmetic boxes, home appliance casings, car interiors, stationery, optical components, food contact grade plastics.
